Richard has over 25 years experience as an Australian Army Officer, strategic planner and change manager. He has led teams internationally including during peace-keeping operations, humanitarian assistance and conflict resolution. He has a passion for using evidence based protocols to assisting people to build resilience and self-awareness, to manage stress, anxiety and to recovery from trauma.
Richard is an accredited iRest Yoga Nidra Meditation Teacher (Level 2), CINERGY® Conflict Management Coach, Dispute Mediator, Yoga Teacher, Meditation Association of Australia Registered Teacher, and Member of the International Institute of Complementary Therapists.
About the class
iRest, or Integrative Restoration, is an evidence-based mind-body protocol for optimal health, healing and well-being. It takes the form of a guided meditation, usually practiced while laying on your back, or in any position you choose. iRest is based on the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra meditation, adapted by clinical psychologist, researcher and yogic scholar, Dr Richard Miller, PhD. to incorporate contemporary understandings of neuroscience and to suit the conditions of modern life. Research indicate that iRest effectively alleviates post-traumatic-stress (PTSD), anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, depression, chemical dependency and enhances general wellbeing.
iRest was developed by Dr Miller for the U.S. Military at the Walter Reed Army Hospital in the United States. In 2010 the U.S. Army surgeon General endorsed iRest as an approved complementary medicine. iRest is used for resilience and recovery by the military at over 100 bases in the USA, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia and has go on to be successfully applied to many different populations across the world (including community centres, clinics, chemical dependency, homeless, schools, hospices, correctional facilities, traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, anxiety); groups with compromised nervous systems or trauma, chronic pain, sleep disorders or high stress levels – and also by those simply seeking optimal wellbeing.
When practiced regularly – little and often – iRest enables you to meet each moment of your life with unshakable peace and wellbeing, no matter how challenging or difficult your situation.
iRest is easy to practice. It can be practiced by anyone, regardless of physical ability or experience with meditation. iRest is a trauma aware protocol. It is usually practiced while laying on your back, or in any position you choose. If laying down you may like to have a cushion under our knees and a blanket. Once learned, iRest becomes a set of tools for life.

Agreement of Release and Waiver of Liability
Please read carefully and understand that by participating in these free online wellness classes you agree to this release agreement and waiver. If you have any questions or concerns please discuss with the facilitator before participation in each online event.
I understand that I am participating in free online wellness sessions involving alternative therapies. I agree to read the class descriptions and qualifications held by each facilitator prior to participation in that session.
I understand that these programs may release strong emotions and I accept this possibility and the result of such emotional release.
In understand that in cases of severe trauma and/or mental health concerns, alternative therapies such as those offered should be used as an adjunct to traditional professional medical and psychological support.
If I have any concern in relation to my personal medical situation, I acknowledge that am advised to consult my health care provider to seek a professional medical opinion on my suitability to participate in alternative therapies. I acknowledge that I have been informed that it may be appropriate to have a follow up consultation with a professional health care provider if I have any unresolved concerns after undertaking online instruction.
I acknowledge that there are risks and dangers that cannot be eliminated in this work, and even if a risk or danger could have been eliminated, this does not always occur.
I agree to follow instructions carefully and to immediately stop any activity that causes me any unacceptable discomfort, emotional distress or pain.
I understand that some of the programs offered may produce a deep state of relaxation that can continue for many hours after the program is complete. I acknowledge that I may need to refrain from driving a vehicle after a session, until I feel capable of responding to the situations that may arise while driving.
I, my heirs and legal representatives and spouse, if any, agree to release, discharge and indemnify the Instructor(s), in respect to any liability which may be alleged or arise in connection with or as a result of the program which I have agreed to participate in.
I agree that this waiver will be interpreted, as broadly as allowed by law, and that if part of this waiver is deemed invalid then the balance shall remain in effect.
I understand that these programs may provide benefits for certain conditions but results are not guaranteed.
I freely and voluntarily agree to these terms and conditions even though I would not be able to participate without agreeing to this waiver. I assert that my participation is voluntary and that I assume all risks.
