About Amie

Amie is a peer human. Her body’s been fortunate to move following the lead of fine folk over a number of years including – Simon Thakur, Debora de Centa, Craig Mallet. Amie is also a leader in a peer-counseling movement that focusses on how hurts are stored in our body, their relationship to societal systems of oppression, and processes of emotional release. She hopes that through sharing her learnings and engaging in mutual exploration with others, we all may encounter our full and shared humanity with renewed vigour.

About the class

Our bodies were made to move. ALL bodies are made to move… For various psycho-socially contingent reasons, many of us stop moving, particularly in dynamic and fluid ways when we come out of our teen or young adult years. Some of our bodies were shamed and so we avoid anything related to our bodies except for in privacy. Some of us kept up one sport but stopped playing freely. Some of us got injured and gave up. Some of us are emotionally burdened and wear that burden in our bodies. Whatever the story of your body, your body is GOOD and worth moving in whatever way it can!

Join me to jiggle some of the sleeping parts of our bodies in a gentle, light and nourishing way. Our bodies are alive, and awakening sensation, movement and awareness in our bodies is a potent way to connect us to the wonder of life that lives in and all around us. EVERY body is welcome.

About Richard

Richard has over 25 years experience as an Australian Army Officer, strategic planner and change manager. He has led teams internationally including during peace-keeping operations, humanitarian assistance and conflict resolution. He has a passion for using evidence based protocols to assisting people to build resilience and self-awareness, to manage stress, anxiety and to recovery from trauma.

Richard is an accredited iRest Yoga Nidra Meditation Teacher (Level 2), CINERGY® Conflict Management Coach, Dispute Mediator, Yoga Teacher, Meditation Association of Australia Registered Teacher, and Member of the International Institute of Complementary Therapists.

About the class

iRest, or Integrative Restoration, is an evidence-based mind-body protocol for optimal health, healing and well-being. It takes the form of a guided meditation, usually practiced while laying on your back, or in any position you choose. iRest is based on the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra meditation, adapted by clinical psychologist, researcher and yogic scholar, Dr Richard Miller, PhD. to incorporate contemporary understandings of neuroscience and to suit the conditions of modern life. Research indicate that iRest effectively alleviates post-traumatic-stress (PTSD), anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, depression, chemical dependency and enhances general wellbeing.

iRest was developed by Dr Miller for the U.S. Military at the Walter Reed Army Hospital in the United States. In 2010 the U.S. Army surgeon General endorsed iRest as an approved complementary medicine. iRest is used for resilience and recovery by the military at over 100 bases in the USA, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia and has go on to be successfully applied to many different populations across the world (including community centres, clinics, chemical dependency, homeless, schools, hospices, correctional facilities, traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, anxiety); groups with compromised nervous systems or trauma, chronic pain, sleep disorders or high stress levels – and also by those simply seeking optimal wellbeing.

When practiced regularly – little and often – iRest enables you to meet each moment of your life with unshakable peace and wellbeing, no matter how challenging or difficult your situation.

iRest is easy to practice. It can be practiced by anyone, regardless of physical ability or experience with meditation. iRest is a trauma aware protocol. It is usually practiced while laying on your back, or in any position you choose. If laying down you may like to have a cushion under our knees and a blanket. Once learned, iRest becomes a set of tools for life.

About Kate

I facilitate Biocentric activities and Biodanza for wellness, teambuilding and personal. I’ve worked with hundreds of people from pre-school children to executives, vulnerable teenagers to government using biocentric methods in Australia, the Philippines, South Africa, Brazil, Europe and Mozambique.

I get a buzz from seeing the transformation in people that these methods bring. We are all looking for ways to ease suffering, reduce stress and find more joy, whatever our country, age or circumstance. These methods manage to bring that with presence, joy, art and humanity.

I run weekly groups in Canberra (online at the moment) and train people to become Biodanza facilitators as the Director of the Biodanza School of Australia.See www.biodanza.com.au for more about our offerings. Weekly online evening class – Mondays at 7.30pm.

About the Class

Step away from the desk for a midday reset.

Humans were born to move!

Most of us know we need to move more. We are smarter, more creative and more engaged when we move. Moving and music are two of the most enlivening forces for humans. And we will bring a fabulous combo of both into this class.

For this 45 minute class we will play music that elevates your mood and makes you want to move. And we will invite you to a set of fun and simple movements. It’s put together in a way that leaves you feeling grounded and energised and can be done by anyone. You take it at your own pace and there’s a little break between each song.

Biodanza the Dance of Life is our inspiration. Biodanza was born in South America so this is more like a party than exercise.
